Because I need something light

My blog for the last several days has been far more serious than normal.
I guess it proves I can be logical and relevant when I want to, but I'm bored with all of that.
Here is something a little lighter and more fun.
And rather impressive too.

I am Proud of My Country

It's (finally) over.
Barrack Obama will lead our country for the next 4 years.
There are many things I don't like about Mr. Obama and things I disagree with him on.
But then again, I didn't like McCain a whole lot better.
The next 4 years will be hard for whoever sits in the oval office.
Our country is fighting a lot of tough battles right now. Some literally, but many figuratively.
When it comes down to it. The president actually has less power than it seems like he does.
(But it sure is easy to blame him when things go wrong).
According to one article I read this morning, after all precincts have their final counts and All absentee ballots have been accounted for, it is predicted that 136.6 million Americans will have voted.
This is a 64.1% turnout rate. Meaning that 2 out of 3 Americans who were eligible to vote did.
This is the highest turnout rate since 100 years ago in 1908, when the turnout was 65.7%.
But, if you were awake for any amount of time in your history classes, you will remember that in 1908 Women and Blacks were not allowed to vote.
So in this election the American people cared more, and acted like they cared more, than they ever have in the history of our country.
We could argue about the motivations people had for voting and the amount that they truly educated themselves on the issues. But in the end all of that is moot.
The fact is that this election, the candidates, the issues, the problems our country is facing, got more americans out of their chairs and to the polls than ever before.
And that is something to be proud of.
And while this particular point was something that I did not factor into my personal voting, there were many who did, and I am proud that our country has finally gotten to the point that a black man has been elected by the people to be President.
So whether or not you voted for Obama or for the state representatives that will be representing you, the fact is that we as a people elected these men and women, using a system that I believe was created by the founders of our country under divine guidance.
We have pushed God out of our schools, and too often, out of our hearts, but he still loves us.
He still loves this country and will guide us as long as we give him the chance.
So I will pray for God to guide our President Elect, Mr. Obama, and our other leaders.
And I will thank God every day for the privilege of living in this great country, and the opportunities that come with it.
God bless the United States of America.
And God bless our leaders too.

I Voted! Election Day Coverage

The lines were out the door when I went to the polls this morning.
I got there about 8:30, right in the middle of the before-work rush.
All of the candidates were represented, by signs, if not by guys handing out leaflets to the last minute, undecided voters.
But they couldn't stand past here.
Apparently, very few people, in my precinct at least, with last names starting with H-O were voting this morning, because I walked straight to the front of my line.
We won't have to worry about hanging chads here in VA. We vote on computers.
And I stopped to buy doughnuts from a little league baseball team on the way back to the car.
(Not for me, of course, for the kids. Yeah, that's right, the kids).
It is exciting to be a part of this election.
This election, regardless of the outcome, will be monumental in our nations history.
Whether you are voting for Barrack Obama, and a symbol of change, or John McCain and are simply going for the lesser of two evils, (like me), every vote matters.
Especially in my potential swing state of VA.
We'll see the outcome soon enough.
In the meantime, check out this video, (at least the first 2 or 3 minutes of it).
This video represents to me much of the common sense and clarity this whole year of campaigning has shown.
Enjoy.

Oh, if only I could have voted for Tarquin-fimtin-limbin-wimbin-lim-busstop-fatang-fatang-ole-biscuitbarrel....

/sigh.

IT'S ALMOST OVER!

"This weekend is daylight savings. Everyone sets their clocks back. You know what that means: an extra hour for this stupid campaign." — Leno.
In case you haven't already seen this, here are the highlights of this weekend's Saturday Night Live.
.
Okay, apparently these aren't loading.
So >>>click here<<< to see John McCain on SNL Weekend Update,
and >>>click here<<< to see John McCain with Gov. Palin (Tina Fey) on an SNL QVC spiff.
.
Come Wednesday I will be able to hear regular radio commercials, see normal tv ads, not have to pull flyers from under my windshield wipers, not have to answer the phone and talk to polling companies, and not be bombarded by handshaking politicians outside of Walmart.
I guess I'll have to find new blog fodder, but that's okay.
I can't wait for this election to be OVER!

Be Grateful, Sunday Post

I had the privilege of subsituting for the Chorister in Primary (the children's church class) today at church.
I had so much fun.
We played Name That Tune with songs they have learned lately.
They got really into it and were actually pretty competitive.
The younger kids actually did better than the big kids and were guessing some of the songs with only 1 note.
One Sunbeam (3 year old) kept yelling out "I Am A Child Of God" on every song except when we did "I Am A Child Of God".
Anyway...
Today's thought comes from The President of the Church, Thomas S. Monson.

"This is a wonderful time to be living here on earth.

Our opportunities are limitless. While there are some things wrong in the world today, there are many things right, such as teachers who teach, ministers who minister, marriages that make it, parents who sacrifice, and friends who help.

We can lift ourselves, and others as well, when we refuse to remain in the realm of negative thought and cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude.

If ingratitude be numbered among the most serious sins, then gratitude takes its place among the noblest of virtues."

Here are some things I am greateful for:

-My family, with all of our eccentricity and variety.

-The gospel of Jesus Christ

-The knowledge that God loves me.

-The opportunity I have to work at home with the job that I have.

-The physical health I enjoy so much.

Those are some of the big ones, but each day there are simple things and tender mercies that I am grateful to God for. Like:

-When J gave me a hug this morning.

-The little boy who kept yelling "I am a Child of God" and making me laugh.

-The steak and A-1 I had for dinner.

-That my headache is gone.

I will try to be more grateful for these small and simple things each day.

What are you grateful for?

Tell me here in the comments or list them on your blog.

Joke of the Day

What is the difference between ignorance, apathy, and ambivalence?
.
.
.
.
.
I don't know, and I don't care, one way or the other.
.

The New Guest House

While this may just look like a messy living room, and you may think I have let my children run amok with pillows and blankets, let me assure you this is actually a very well designed guest house, with 3 bedrooms including a master suite and a jail.Yes, I said Jail.
Can you guess who was in the jail?
Anytime you want to come visit you are welcome to stay in the guest house.
Though we may have to rebuild it for you.
.
Here is one more pic of J (I caught him with his mouth open).
He seems to have an ongoing issue with the original design of our couches and the intended placement of the pillows.
Yes, I also know I have blogged pics of my kids forts before, but every work of art should be immortalized.
