I subsituted in the 11 year old Primary class today.
The lesson was on the consequences of our actions.
The attention activity was this:
Imagine you were in a raft in the middle of the ocean hoping to be rescued.
You have several things on the raft that might be helpful, but the raft is riding low and you have to throw out all but 2 things.
This is what you have:
-life jacket
-emergency flares
-fishing pole and tackle
-bottles of water
-chest of gold
-2 way radio
-large can of shark repellent
.
The answers from the kids in the class were all different. We talked about the consequences of each choice.
The class went very well. It was probably the best primary class I have subbed in.
But I want to know, what would you choose?

First I would dump the chest of gold and the shark repellent (I doubt it would help enough to keep it.)I would use the life jacket as a floatation device for the bottles of water and the emergency flares. I would use multiple lengths of fishing line to tie the life jacket to the raft so it isn't affecting the overall weight. I would keep the 2 way radio in the raft with me.
I don't know if that's the correct "text book" answer, but it's what I would do.

Good Job Carrie that is a better answer tah I would have given.

If I were in a life raft, I know I would have Chet with me. I would throw everything else out but Chet because he would know what the hell to do. And he probably would figure out how to keep everything else including the chest of gold. But, you know, I have Chet so I don't need the gold.--Liz
Smart kids I have. Liz, I am thankful to have you for a daughter in-law. What a blessing to have a son so cherished. Mom
What Mom said.
Carrie-
Great job thinking outside the box.
There was no one right answer, but that was the best one I have heard.
Drew-
As a Dr. don't you know that "than" is not spelled "tah"?
J/K. But I have to give you a hard time.
Liz-
Definitely keep Chet.
Unless he was off on a 9 day scout trip when this happened.
Then what would you do?
I would hope you would find a way to keep the gold so you can use some of it to come visit me.
Mom-
As I said, I agree with you.

I like Carrie's answer!
Della I didn't get a chance to visit with you by phone but can I take this opportunity to remind you to write a memory, thoughts, or comment on grandpa's place in your life for his book. Please send it to me acovey@mccdahs.org and your mother. I love you, Aunt Alice
I would probably have myself a nervous breakdown and throw it all out. Then sit there bawling as my pot of gold sank.
Okay - Who is this Carrie and Karl. I think I want her in the life boat with me. Obviously she/he is more logical and could figure the mess out for me. .
Alice-
I will work on something.
Pike-
Carrie and Karl are my sister and brother in law.
Carrie does most of the blogging.
I think she has commented on your blog before. And you may have visited her.
You are right though. I have grown up with and even worked with Carrie. If there is any situation or project that she is unsure of how to handle, give her a little time and she will figure out how to deal with it and will probably end up doing a better job than anybody else.
She is awesome.
