What I got from the marathon

I got all kinds of goodies as a participant in the half marathon.
I got a goodie bag before the race and another one after the race.
I got granola bars, water bottles, sport bags, samples of shaving cream and body glide. Coupons for $ off shoes and rental cars. A t-shirt and a free beer at the end of the race (I turned it down).
I'm most proud of this: My medal and bib number.

You can see the bib number got a bit abused during the race. Sooner or later I will probably lose track of that. But the medal I will hang on to for a long time.

Hopefully I will soon be adding others to the collection.

It's a pretty cool medal.

But here's a picture of one other thing I got from the race:

In answer to some of my dad's questions from his comment under the last post:

The blister actually got it's start during my 11 mile practice run last Monday. It was pretty big then, but not this big.

It popped that day and I have been putting Band-aid brand blister cushions on it.

These are awesome. I don't know if I could have run without them.

But the blister got bigger anyway.

I actually went out and ran 2 1/2 miles this morning to burn out the lactic acid in my muscles to help them heal from the race.

I'll take a day off tomorrow.

The blister popped during todays run. Yes, Dad. I'll be sure to keep it clean.

The race pictures should be available soon. I'll post them as soon as I get them.

It can be hard to find and hurts a little, but I recommend putting Benzoin Tincture on the blisters.

Lillie-
Thank you. I feel pretty cool.
Mike-
I'll look for that.
So, if you're going to be stationed at Bragg next year, how about running the '09 half marathon with me?

Della,

You're on. Sounds like fun. They are having another one here in two weekends. Hopefully it will be cooler that the last one I did.

Congrats! I'm always amazed as to WHY anyone would want to run that far. My friend took 5th in her(yours?) age bracket in that race!

Steve-
Way to go for your friend.
I came in about 500th in my age bracket.
I expect to do better in the Outer Banks in November.
Why did I do it?
To accomplish a goal.
Why am I going to do it again?
Because it was a freaking rush.
The best natural high I've had besides riding motorcyles.
I can't wait to do it again.
Thanks for stopping by the blog.

Hmmm, you clearly are east coast. You closer to VA Beach or The Banks? You ever hang with the DC bloggers?
